The southern coast of Portugal has been a holiday playground for many years. The area has beautiful beaches, great climate,many sporting facilities and some very good quality accommodation. Albufeira is maybe the most popular resort, it has a lovely town which is fairly lively in high season (in a nice way) and has a great selection of shops cafes and bars. The beach is good and you can still see the fishermen set off daily to supply the many restaurants in the area. Vale do Lobo is a golfers paradise with some lovely villas and hotels. Vilamoura has a large marina with many hotels in the area. The resort is fairly spread out so a car is worth hiring if you stay in this area. Portimao is one of the most attractive towns along the Algarve coast, it has a working fishing harbour and here you can enjoy fresh grilled sardines overlooking the sea. Lagos has something for every one, a lovely beach, some great hotels and a very attractive town. The Algarve has so many small resorts and fishing villages dotted along its coast, each with its own charm and atmosphere. A great holiday destination.
